In October 1994, the leader of an estimated 60 million Muslims of Uzebekistan, Mufti Abdullah Mukhtar, visited the U.S. for the first time. His only public meeting and dialogue was with Imam W.D.Mohammed.

In 1995, Imam Mohammed was selected as an International President for the World Conference on Religion and Peace. In March he addressed its governing board meeting in Copenhagen, Denmark, with a message on social development and the aspirations and responsibilities of the common person in society.

In 1996 Dr. Mohammed Nuir Manuty, President of the Muslim Youth Movement, Invited Imam Mohammed to visit Malaysia. During his stay, the Deputy Prime Minister and the Imam met privately. The Malaysian National Television Program "Good Morning Malaysia" also interviewed him.

In May 2000, Ebony Magazine voted him as one of the most influential persons in the world.

On April 6, 2002, Imam Mohammed is presented with the Gandhi-King-Ikeda Award by Morehouse College's Dean Reverend Dr. Lawrence Edward Carter Sr. in recognition of his contributions to peaceful dialogue in the world.
